MVPC Burrito Crew
Meets weekly on Wednesday
12:30pm in MVPC Life Center
The program originally began in 2020 as the pandemic gripped the world. At the time, a local hotel conference that would have served a complimentary breakfast was cancelled, leaving frozen scrambled eggs that were ultimately donated to the Community Kitchen. Pastor Jim Webb, who also had catering experience, offered to help the kitchen out and gathered church volunteers to use the eggs to make burritos at the church that they would then donate back to the kitchen to serve.

Since then, a small group of volunteers has met every week, using the church’s kitchen to whip up around 150 burritos every Wednesday to go back to the Community Kitchen to feed the hungry in Loveland.

The program helps provide consistency to those experiencing homelessness, knowing they will get a good, quality meal when they come to the Community Kitchen. The product is more than just a quick snack or meal, but something the team put hard work into.

Mah Jongg
Meets monthly on the 1st Monday of the Month
1:00pm in the MVPC Life Center
All Levels Welcome ~ Come join the fun!

Mah Jongg is a rummy-like game played with tiles, rather than cards. The game originated in China and was popularized in the United States at the beginning of the 20th century.

Mah Jongg has also been a way for people to find community. It brings together people who may not have otherwise known each other and helps forge friendships (often lifelong), through regular games. Though game time tends to be focused and fast-paced, there's just the right amount of time during the shuffling of the tiles and during breaks to get to know one another and build strong relationships.

Studies have shown that playing Mah Jongg provided benefits such as enhanced cognitive health and social and emotional support. The activity offers a sense of competency and satisfaction and a feeling of youthfulness, and it also served as a form of mental exercise.

Those wishing to join or have questions, please contact the Church Office and we will put you in contact with Pam McGee, the Fellowship Committee Chair.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Meets monthly on the 4th Wednesday of the Month
1:45pm in the MVPC Library
Some members of Mountain View started a ministry of creating prayer shawls to reach out with care and love to those in need of comfort as well as joy and celebration of an occasion. We are an outreach of the Church through the Deacons.

This interdenominational ministry was begun several years ago by women in Connecticut and has spread all around the country.

Prayers are offered before beginning, during, and after finishing the shawl. These prayers are for comfort and peace for the recipient. The stitches contain love and comfort for the person receiving it. The group blesses the shawl before it is given.

Any person may join this group. We meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Church's library for knitting/crocheting and fellowship. Much of the creation is done at home and you need not attend the meetings to be a part of the group but the fellowship adds to the enjoyment.

There are kits for new shawls available, and lovely shawls that are finished and ready to bring comfort to someone.

For more information contact the Church Office and we will put you in contact with Sharon Swindler, the Leader of the group.

Building Bridges
Meets monthly on the 1st Thursday of the Month
12:30pm in the Parlor
All Levels Welcome ~ Come join the fun!
The game of Bridge is a great way to stay sharp and make friends. We welcome players of all skill levels and are willing to train new learners.

Researchers have discovered that mentally challenging games such as bridge are well suited for people because the games offer intellectual and social stimulation on a routine basis. Bridge's intricacies make it particularly appealing for those who want to sharpen acuity with mental gymnastics. A study in 2000 at the University of California, Berkeley, found strong evidence that an area in the brain used in playing bridge stimulates the immune system. Researchers suggest that is because players must use memory, visualization and sequencing.

Bridge is also a social game. This distinction is important because it’s well-known that staying socially connected is key to good health. Playing bridge can help you develop new social circles and we are always looking to make new friends. We don’t care how good you are, just that you are open to making new friends!

Those wishing to join, please contact the Church Office and we will put you in contact with Terry Shores and Doreen McDonald.
