ENGALAWENI HEALTH CENTRE
Dedication
The Engalaweni Health Centre has been in full operation since January 2022, after receiving formal certification and approval from the Malawi Ministry of Health. The Centre has been providing much-needed local health care, prenatal, and maternity services and has saved many lives already.
The Health Centre has a Women’s Maternity Ward dedicated to prenatal, labor, delivery, and related services, a General Ward for first aid, treatment of common illnesses, and endemic diseases, and an Administrative Block with offices, examination rooms, and basic pharmacy. The Centre has a certified Medical Clinician and Certified Nurse living on-site in the provided staff housing. The project began in 2014 between Engalaweni Session and MVPC Mission Committee and was completed in late 2021 after overcoming design changes and many other interim challenges.
The Health Centre is one of six other such rural centers overseen by Medical Operations at the Embangweni Hospital, located about 30 km away. This Hospital serves a catchment area containing over 25,000 residents and is part of the mission health system operated by the Health Department of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia.
On August 30, 2022, the Health Centre celebrated its official Dedication Ceremony which gathered Traditional Leaders, Synod Officials, Government representatives, Hospital and Centre staff, and hundreds more. MVPC was greatly recognized and honored for our support for this vital facility. For area residents, the Centre is a dream come true that health services are now available in minutes instead of a 6-hour walk away.
